One of the most famous artists in the world, Andy Warhol was born in 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He studied commercial art at Carnegie Institute of Technology and moved to New York to work in advertising field in 1949, and this experience helped him to develop his own style in art.

In his early paintings the theme were mostly from advertisements and comics, but since 1963 he started to produce silkscreened works and this method became associated with commercial printing.

Warhol depicted commercial things such as a Brillo pad box or Campbell's soup can with simple colors to make it more close to traditional still life or abstract painting. His studio was called The Factory - he worked with assistants and made the progress of art also into a part of mass media and capitalism.

초기 그의 작품은 광고와 만화에서 출발했으나 1963년 실크스크린 판화작품을 제작하게 된다. 그는 유명한 ‘캠벨 수프 캔’이나 ‘브릴로 박스’처럼 다양한 주제를 넘나들었으며, 마치 전통적인 정물화와 같은 단순하고 강조된 색상을 사용하면서 사람들의 주목을 받게 된다. 많은 조수들과 함께 일하는 그의 작업실은 ‘공장’이라고 불리며 예술이 창조되는 과정 역시도 대중문화와 자본주의의 일부로 만들었다.
