1980년대 후반에 영국 현대 미술의 부활을 이끌며 ‘YBA(Young British Artists)’ 그룹을 전설로 만든 주역이기도 한 데미안 허스트는 현재까지도 세계 미술계에서 가장 영향력 있는 인물로 손꼽힌다. 미국이 주도하던 미술 시장의 흐름을 바꿔놓을 만큼 강력한 영향력을 발휘한 바 있는 그의 작품들은 삶, 죽음, 욕망, 종교와 같은 본질적인 영역들 간의 복잡한 관계성을 드러내곤 한다. 

 

5점이 세트로 구성된 <황후> 시리즈는 필리그리(filigree) 기법으로 붉게 반짝이는 효과를 내고 있으며, 복잡하게 배열된 나비 이미지로 구성되어 만화경을 들여다보는듯 시각적으로 황홀한 인상을 준다. 5명의 영향력 있는 황후의 이름을 딴 제목을 가진 5점의 작품이 품고 있는 강렬하고 붉은 빛은 황후의 삶, 전쟁, 권력, 분노, 사랑, 기쁨, 행운과 같은 주제를 심화한다. 

 

Damien Hirst, a poster boy for the YBA(Young British Artists) who rose to prominence in late1980s London, is one of the most notorious artists of his generation. Through his works, Hirst explores themes including mortality, desire and religion.

 

, a series of five glorious prints constructed of beautiful images of red Butterly wings, which are intricately arranged with a filigree or red glitter to produce visually intoxicating kaleidoscope-like effects. The prints are named after five exceptionally influential female rulers. Their characters and stories are enhanced by the dominant red tone of the series, which deals with themes such as life, power, anger, love, joy and luck.
